National Dance Week: Miller Street Dance Academy

This week, we’re focused on celebrating dance and what it means to us. At Jackrabbit, we are honored to work with dance studio owners and love hearing about their passion. I love to see dance studio owners and teachers connect to share the love! Keep an eye out for the other posts in the National Dance Week series to meet some other awesome Jackrabbit Dance users!

Miller Street Dance Academy: Established by Michelle Rogers in 1994 with 21 students. Now, enrollment has grown to 1,800 students, 2 studios with multiple dance rooms, and a dance boutique. Michelle is always ready for the next step the studio will take and is honored to serve the Charlotte and Fort Mill regions with quality dance instruction.
Why do you dance?

I started taking dance as a fun and recreational hobby. It didn’t take long for me to fall in love with it. I haven’t stopped since!

What is your passion?
My passion is sharing the beauty of dance with my students in a fun and positive environment.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
A newscaster.
What is your biggest challenge and how do you overcome it?

My biggest challenge as a teacher is making sure all of my students feel 100% comfortable and confident in all of their classes. Children are going up a record speed these days and our children need to know it’s ok to be young and have fun, that’s what children are suppose to do. They don’t need to be edgy or racy to be “good” they just need to be themselves and not allow media and outside influences to pressure them to be anything other than the person they want to be.

What is one thing a dancer can’t live without?
The perfect black leotard and tights!
